Dear D80 Division Governors,

The first Toastmasters Club landed ashore in South East Asia some five and a half decades ago. Most clubs at the time had to operate single-handed until the early ninties when a group of proactive leaders set up a Territorial Council, of which a dynamic pioneer - Accredited Speaker Gerald Greend DTM - was elected as the 1990-1992 Territorial Council Chairman, resulting in a successful formation of District51 comprising Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand since 1993 with Macau and Hong Kong taking part in the year 1998. After District51 being split, we - Hong Kong, Macau, Singapore and
Thailand - have aboded in a new home called 'District80'.

In Toastmasters, recognition is the essential KEY to leadership SUCCESS; therfore, I hereby recall the moments of truth: Gerald Green's 70th Birthday Party at the Little Cottage, Penang on 4th April 2009, where a number of Toastmasters from different places inclduing myself gathered together to give him a special TOAST from our hearts combined.

Gerald: once a Great Leader, YOU are a Great Leader for Life... WE salute YOU for being such a great Role Model regardless
of Time and Boundaries. "TO SIR WITH LOVE - THANK YOU!"

Dear D80 Division Governors,

EXPERIENCE SHARING is highly regarded an act of GREATNESS for the betterment of humankind. I am confident that Division Z Achiever's Day Report will be an enriching paradigm for all leaders in general. I gratefully thank Division Z Governor Stanley CHEN, CC/CL and all the Area Z Governors especially Organizing Chair - Area Z5 Governor LUM Sau Ying, CC/CL for the inpiring article belows:

"Division Z officers have successfully organized the Achiever’s Day on 13 December 2008 at Yusof Ishak House, National University of Singapore. About 25 participants attended this event. The enthusiasm of the project speakers, the commitment of the appointment holders and the support of the other participants have helped to make this event possible.

The purpose of organizing Achiever’s Day is to enable toastmasters to present their final projects before they achieve Competent Communicator, Advanced Communicator or Competent or Advanced Leader titles. It is also a day when toastmasters received their educational goal or leadership goal awards, DCP awards and other accomplishments that have been achieved.

Six speakers presented their prepared speeches during this event. 3 of them presented their basic projects while the other 3 presented advanced projects. Their interesting speeches had entertained and enlightened the audience. Among these six speakers, two of them were working on their final projects before they achieved their desired award.

The project evaluators provided constructive feedback to the speakers. They analyzed and highlighted the speakers’ skills in their given speeches and suggested areas for improvements. The speakers have benefited from the respective evaluations. They valued the feedback that was given by the evaluators.

Division Z has achieved many accomplishments, with 21 outstanding toastmasters receiving an award in Communication or Leadership track in the term 2008-2009. There were 14 Competent Communicator Awards, 4 Advanced Communicator Awards, 1 Leadership Excellence Award and 2 Competent Leader Awards. We were honoured to have our District Governor, DTM Goh Wei Koon, to present these awards on the recipients. In addition, we had toastmaster Bai Hongwei from Nanyang Brasstacks TMC and Nithiarani Rajasingham CC, from Bishan TMC, who presented their final project speeches, which earned them the Competent Communicator Award and Advanced Communicator Bronze Award respectively. We would like to take this opportunity to congratulate them.

We must not forget the appointment holders. They were the ones who supported and sustained the quality of this gracious event. Patricia Ng from Civil Service College TMC, helped out with registration to keep track of the participants who attended the event. Wee Ming Hwee from Ulu Pandan TMC, being the Sergeant at Arms, conducted an ice-breaking session to help the participants get to know one another. Dawn from ACCA TMC, as the timer, ensured that the event would end on time and Amelia Ching from NUSS TMC, our Toastmaster of the Day, ensured a smooth flow to the day’s program by introducing each speaker and appointment holder. Christine Lim from NOL TMC and Ang Soo Kuang from NUS TMC have helped out with the logistics.

It was indeed a challenge to conduct Achiever’s Day. Most of the toastmasters have enjoyed themselves. There is no doubt that everyone is looking forward to the next Achiever’s Day in the year 2009."

Dear D80 Division Governors,

Time flies... The 2008 District80 Semi-Annual Convention at YWCA in Singapore has past for a forthnight, but the effect is still ringing in our mind with a brilliant glow in our memory.

We are now busy over the year-end transition from the 2008 overactive MOUSE to the Year of hard-working OX or productive COW - GREAT TIME IS JUST ONE STEP AHEAD!

The 'Great Connections' 2nd Newsletter is almost geared up... Some of YOU have not yet submitted Your Division Photos/Articles within the Suffocating Line owing to your busy schedules, I therefore take this opportunity to humbly remind YOU of the DEADLINE: 15TH DECEMBER 2008! Your urgent help can tremendously make a big difference to the upcoming Great Issue.

I personally thank all of YOU who have contributed your personal stories which will be put on this BLOG and distributed to both Toastmasters and Non-Toastmasters during the 2008-2009 Division T Toastmasters Caravan. Your articles will reach and enhance lots of people far more than YOU could have imagined!

Despite the global financial and the in-house political crises, Division T is still labouring to bring forth 2 new offspring this month: One is the CDG TMC which located in Bangkok, and the other is the SRU TMC in Suratthani distant about 700 kilometers from Bangkok.

DIVISION T BREAKING NEWS!!!

The Ansell Thailand Company has submitted the Charter Forms to start up the Ansell Lat Krabang Toastmasters Club in November 2008. Congratulations to Division T Governor Damrong ATMS and Area T1 Governor Arun ATMB CL for having turned a great Dream into Reality!

Division T has successfully delivered 2 offspring in the first quarter of
2008-2009 Toastmasters Term. The Saint John Toastmasters Club has been placed in the hand of Area T5 Governor Thanoo ATM, and The Ansell Lat Krabang Toastmasters Club will be located in Area T1, whih will be taken care by Area T1 Governor Arun ATMB CL.

Division T is going to hold the Evaluation & Humorous Speech Contests at RUBY ROOM, 4TH Floor, Indra Regent Hotel, Bangkok, Thailand on Sunday, 9th November 2008 at Time: 1:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. All Toasatmasters who confirm their attendance within Friday, 7th November 2008 will be exempted from the THB180
Admission Fee including a tasty set of Coffee or Tea. All Guests are subject to pay THB100 Admission Fee at the Registration Desk.

The Toastmasters Publicity in Thailand has spread out like wild fires in addition to the regular 'Introduction to Toastmasters', which has been conducted for all non-toastmasters around the country. The one with the biggest attendance this term was at the CDG Headquarters in Bangkok, where the meeting room was overwhelmed with 180 non-toastmasters audience - Believe it or not: a few dozen of people were willing to stand and observe through the 2-hour Demonstration Session.

Division T successfully completed the District Officer and Judge Trainings on Saturday, 13th Saturday 2008... it was a full-blooded event that all the Executive Officers were present throughout the day. The Judge Training was packed with over 50 enhusiasts for judging excellence: it was a splendid edutaining HOLIDAY!

Dear D80 Division Governors,

Time passes more swiftly than a rocket... 2 and a half months of the 2008-2009 Toastmasters Term have zoomed away unawares due to our individual workloads or schedules at work, or at home. However, no leaders of D80 have ever refused my requests at all... each response was spontaneous and pleasing; all Division Governors immediately helped make each and every mission complete. Please kindly accept my hearty thanks!

The 'Gear forwards Greatness' Semi-Annual Convention is now approaching... it is 21 - 22 November 2008 at YWCA Fort Canning Lodge, SINGAPORE. Let's join together to power this 'fellowship bonding' EVENT a true SUCCESS, which will in turn lay a solid stepping stone for us to 'Go for Greatness'.

Leadership stamina can only be enhanced through active involvement: 'LEARN by DOING' both in and out of the BOX... we must be able to perceive the Goal, set the Direction, and persuade others to commit to a course of moral action for a better self, better community, and better world at large. This is the reason why all great leaders have to master an effective verbal communication skill in order to creat MUTUAL UNDERSTANDING among people of different backgrounds, ideas, etc in varied situations and environments.

The best way to hone verbal communication skill is PRESENT SPEECHES and LEARN FROM constructive EVALUATIONS on a regular basis, whichh is the regularToastmasters Learning System. It is our responsibility to help new members present the first 10 Basic Speech Projects in the Manual, and grasp the Toastmasters Concept/Core Value.

Dear D80 Division Governors,

I must, first of all, thank Division Governors in Singapore and Thailand for helping me fulfill my assignments - smoother than silk!

My special thanks go to Division S Governor, Winson Lim ACB CL for his invaluable article From Jelly Feet to Division Governor, which we will use throughout the 2008-2009 Toastmaters Caravan in Thailand.

Division T has organized a special 2-in-1 packaged event: District Officer Training & Judging Workshop on Saturday, 13th September 2008 at TOPAZ ROOM, 4th floor, Indra Regent Hotel, Rajaprarope Road, BANGKOK. The DOT will be conducted from 10:00 - 12:00 p.m., and The Judge Training is from 2:00 - 5:00 p.m.

Good News: The above events will be presided over by 2008-2009 International Director Poh Kim Siong DTM, D80 Governor Goh Wei Koon DTM, D80 LGM Aziz Mustajab DTM, D80 Secretary Edward Ma DTM, and The first District 80 Governor Gea Ban Peng DTM from Singapore...Division T Team led by DVG Damrong Watanaluck ATMS are ready to welcome all D80 Senior Members, who have sacrificed themselves to the betterment of humankind.

Toastmasters International District 80 has been mourning the Loss of Division D Governor Chee Kim Loon's FATHER, who passed away peacefully on Thursday, 21st August 2008.

The WAKE is at Chinatown, Dickenson Hill Road Carpark, in front of Block 333 from Friday, 22nd until Sunday, 24th August 2008.

***The FUNERAL will be on Monday, 25th August 2008.

BREAKING NEWS from CALGARY

(Center) D80 International Speech Champion - Arthur Ting

The D80 Top Three Officers and Members including 2007-2008 District 80 International Speech Champion -Arthur Ting- have been at the 77th Toastmasters International Annual Convention in Calgary, Canada.

The 2008 Inter-District Speech Contest B, in which Arthur Ting had participated, was launched on Thursday, 14th August 2008, and the RESULTS are as follows:

1st Place - Loghandran Krishnasamy (District 51)
2nd Place - Sammy Su (District 67)
3rd Place - Koka Prasad (District 79)

Our Special Thanks go to ARTHUR TING for having represented District 80 – Hong Kong, Macau, Singapore, and Thailand…Let’s together give him another THUNDER-STRIKING OVATION!!!

Have YOU submitted YOUR contribution for the First Issue of D80 Newsletter?

DPRO Melanie ACS has been working hard on compiling information for the first issue of 'GREAT CONNECTIONS', and anxiously expecting your contributions by 20th August 2008. Since there are only 10 more days to the Dead Line, I therefore post another REMINDER as a follow-up to ensure that all documents reach her on time so that she could efficiently create the best outlook.

As I have promised, this BLOG will be frequently updated with News, Events, and Messages of all D80 Divisions and, your contributions can tremendously make a great difference!

The Division T Team is now arranging the 2008-2009 Caravan Itineraries to cover the 5 regions across the country cruising from the north, north-east, central, east and south. Dear Visitors,

The author writes this entry to test the blog's template with a beautiful logo (don't you think so?) for the District 80 Public Relations Officer 2 (D80PRO2). The following message may not be so useful but the author has a little hope that some of you may laugh or smile after the last full stop.

There were these three guys. They had been walking for 3 days and were very tired. They found a hotel, rented a room and went to sleep. Then, this old guy comes in out of nowhere, and says there is a magic pool just outside their hotel room. He tells them "Ok, you must jump off the diving board, and yell out what you wanna land in."

So the three guys go over the pool. The first guy, a vegetarian, yells out "Bananas!" and lands in a pool of bananas. The second guy was money hungry and yelled out "Money!" and lands in a pile of money. The third guy jumps, when a bird shits on his head, and he yells "Oh Shit!" [From http://www.lotsofjokes.com/]
